November has arrived and aside from the preparations of the holidays that are quickly approaching, this month is also known as National Healthy Skin Month. With winter heading our way soon, it’s encouraged that people learn about the functions of the skin and how to keep it healthy. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) first implemented November as healthy skin month in order to raise awareness about the importance of keeping skin fresh, hydrated and healthy all year round. Here’s cool tips on how to keep your skin healthy and flawless.
1. Drink Lots of water
Drinking water daily is important for overall health. Water helps your body eliminate toxins and it enhances the functions of your metabolism and the natural regeneration of an active body. Drinking large amounts of water gives you radiant, healthy, younger looking skin.
What we put in our mouths is just as influential to our skin as what we apply externally. Having a diet that’s rich in vitamins and whole grains is essential, especially when it comes to keeping your skin youthful. Make sure to include lots of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins in your diet. Since skin is made of protein, the more protein you consume, the better skin you’ll have.
Exercising daily is important to your skin health. Cardio exercises help keep your blood pumping and it delivers nutrients and oxygen to your skin.
4. Moisturize Daily
Another way your skin stays hydrated is through moisturizers. Applying lotion to your body every morning and night prevents your skin from getting dry and it helps keep your skin smooth.
Exfoliation is extremely important when it comes to healthy skin. Exfoliating regularly helps get rid of dead skin cells to reveal new, soft, smooth skin. It can also help increase circulation and improve the appearance of your skin.
