Nicolas Ghesquiere, artistic director for Louis Vuitton, took to his Instagram account to announce that Jaden Smith will be the new face of the Spring/Summer 2016 campaign. Jaden Smith is no stranger to pushing boundaries, as he has proven himself to be a fashion chameleon. The love child of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith made headlines from his style of dress in the past. For his prom he wore a dress and for the Kardashian-West wedding, he wore a batman costume. Because of this the public has a watchful eye when it comes Jaden’s clothing. While a campaign like this will draw critics who don’t quite understand the art of androgyny, Jaden has always been more of a free spirit. Like most 17 year old’s, he is experimenting with fashion. In an interview with GQ Magazine, he spoke about the inspiration behind his look.
“I’m just expressing how I feel inside, which is really no particular way because everyday it changes how I feel about the world and myself, but I like wearing super drapey things so I can feel as though I’m a superhero, but don’t have to necessarily wear superhero costumes everyday.”
The Smith family continues to break barriers. Between Willow’s campaign with Marc Jacobs and Jaden’s recent campaign, their parents must be completely proud of their accomplishments at such a young age.
