Elke Suber has flourished beautifully in her career and so can you! The powerful executive and Assistant General Counsel of Worldwide Retail Stores at Microsoft didn’t allow any fears or barriers to keep her from being the best in Law and Technology. Suber attributes the level of her success to mentoring, dedication and networking. As the Chair of Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA) she encourages professionals to utilize the networks that are available to them in order to elevate their businesses.
The BESLA Mid-Annual conference is one of the most anticipated conferences in law and entertainment. It will be held in New York City this year. With the partnership of Morgan Stanley, BMW, REVOLT, Microsoft, and Fox Rothschild, LLP; BESLA will be kicking off their mid-year conference at Fordham University today, April 4th, 2016. With an immeasurable rolodex of movers and shakers and a network of influential power players, the conference will feature panelists who are the creme de la creme of the industry. Prominent music industry veteran, L.A. Reid will serve as the guest speaker.
BESLA was founded thirty-six years ago after a group of notable African-American attorneys met in Philadelphia during the first annual Black Music Association Conference. They identified a need to establish an ongoing learning and networking environment for African-American attorneys in the entertainment industry. One that would provide an opportunity to share and exchange information, refer businesses, learn about industry opportunities, and support each other in the highly competitive field of entertainment. Today, BESLA continues to fulfill their mission of empowering their members by providing access to key influencers such as Reid and others.
Elke Suber, the second female chair of BESLA is elated about having Reid as the guest speaker. She is also excited about the list of powerful panelists volunteering their time to speak and network. “This is amazing,” she begins. “What it shows is the power of our network and its value. I’m really proud of the relationships we have in the industry with leaders like L.A. Reid and DeMaurice F. Smith (the Executive Director of The National Football League Players Association). The ability to have someone like Michele Roberts come and speak is incredible! She is the first African-American woman to lead The NBA Players Association. Keith Clinkscales, (CEO of Revolt TV & Media) has also been an incredible partner of BESLA for years. We’re very grateful for the relationships we have at BESLA,” said Suber.
The theme of the conference this year is “Succeeding in the Entertainment and Sports Industries.” The event will include several panels covering an array of topics such as digital media and tips to climbing the corporate ladder Suber explains that these networking experiences can be life-changing. “It’s a great opportunity to meet mentors and grow your business. I think its very important to have support as a business owner. We are excited to continue to expand our programming throughout additional major cities in the U.S so that we can touch more people and be the organization that provides professional development and network opportunities for people to build strong businesses,” said Suber.
