Word on the streets is that an official Netflix-produced Nina Simone docu-film is in the midst of creation. Our favorite lonely-girl cure has teamed up with the global production company RadicalMedia planning on a documentary chronicling the life of the legendary singer/songwriter and activist, Nina Simone.
What Happened, Miss Simone?—Not to be confused with the 2015 film starring Zoe Saldana—is set to release sometime in 2015 as well. Directed by Liz Garbus, the film will travel through the career and life of the late pianist showcasing her talents and influence on jazz and blues culture. The docu-film will tell the musical geniuses story using exclusive footage and voice from archival Nina Simone interviews dated through her entire career.
The project has been authorized by Nina Simone’s estate and will also feature rare concert videos, diaries, letters and other private materials that were salvaged. There is not an official release date noted yet, but be on the look out for the film next year.
