The Syrian crisis is probably one of the worst calamities that has happened in our time. More than half of the people in the country have been killed or have been forced to flee. There’s lots of families who are struggling to survive as well as trying to find a new home in other countries. Syria is going through a civil war and majority of the country’s citizens need help and it’s sad that one country that’s one of the most powerful countries in the world is turning its back.
This war in Syria has gone on for four years, and in these past years over 220,000 people have died. There has been a lot of bombings that have destroyed large cities and human rights violations. This week in the news, it was revealed that 26 governors are refusing to allow Syrian refugees because of the fear that violent extremists will masquerade as refugees in order to gain entry to the United States. Which seems like just another case of “Islamophobia” and it’s pretty sad.
While hearing this news, I pondered if the Syrian refugees were white would the governor openly allow them to enter this country? Probably. I also thought, why would people who are trying to escape danger bring harm to another place? It just doesn’t make sense. This country should allow refugees in because they need a safe haven. Many families want to protect their children and themselves so they should be allowed to enter this country. Most families in Syria have lost their homes and have no food or other necessities to survive off of which is why they need our help.
The United States is supposed to be a country that’s for the people but in this case it seems as though those people are limited. For once America needs to stop being so selfish and too self-absorded and help those who need our help tremendously. It sad that we live in a country that cares more about the color of a cup and not the importance of peoples lives.
