#PGOTD: Boss Lady and Creator Of @BKJewelgasm Ericka Tapia #WomensHistoryMonth

Brooklyn Jewelgasm is a Brooklyn-based urban jewelry company; founded by the eclectic native, Ericka Tapia. In 2012, the stylish and edgy jeweler decided to take a leap of faith and invest in something that she was always passionate about. A little over two years later, Ericka is now successfully managing her online boutique, while aiding her community through charitable services. With a positive outlook on the future of her business, Ericka is living proof that success is achievable no matter where you come from. Through mentorship and volunteering, this PYNK Girl gives young women from Brooklyn hope for their future and confirmation that they’re aspirations aren’t so farfetched.

Ericka was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York in the Red Hook and Bushwick areas. After her 10-year stint in the non-profit industry, Ericka started Brooklyn Jewelgasm out of her home after noticing the progressive marketing and brand building tactics that were possible through social media. 8-months later, she opened a store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Although the store was eventually closed due to inconsistent clientele, her online boutique was still flourishing and her business stayed afloat. There is much competition amongst start-up companies, but Ericka has managed to keep her market growing by selling unique and durable accessories. Gaining a positive rapport across social outlets, Brooklyn Jewelgasm received support from celebrities including Elle Varner, Melinda Williams, Tahiry Jose and more.

What separates Brooklyn Jewelgasm from the other online boutiques is not only its distinct style, but they are also heavily involved with giving back to the community. About 20 percent of the profits—that Ericka makes from selling her jewelry—is donated to two community service organizations: Women in Touch located in Red Hook projects and Bushwick Family Day. Although Ericka has a tight schedule, when she isn’t in business meetings or sending out shipments to clients, this diligent diva spends her free time speaking with young women about the importance of getting an education and dreaming big.
