Earlier today, Brandy made an announcement that she will be taking her talents to the Broadway stage this year and team PYNK is just as excited as she is. The Grammy-winning songstress and former PYNK Magazine cover girl will be starring in the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago as Roxie Hart. Brandy has always been one of our favorites since her Moesha days as a 15-year-old just aspiring to do what she loved. Her esteemed legacy was set in stone when she released her self-titled album in 1994 and became a legend.
Brandy made history in 1997 when she was casted in the Disney classic Cinderella as the first African-American female to play a princess. Now, she will be taking on the role of Roxie Hart who has been seldom played by African-American women in the past. The protagonists’ role has previously been filled by the former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams in 2010 and Robin Givens in 2006. PYNK Magazine is a long-time supporter of Brandy and wishes her the best with her new endeavor. Check out some additional photos from our 2013 spread featuring Brandy below.
Chicago the musical will begin running April 28th thru June 21st.
