This morning via Apple Music’s Beats 1, officials announced the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations. The categories include: Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Female Video, Best Hip Hop Video, Best Pop Video, and Artist to Watch. Hosted by Miley Cyrus, this years’ VMA’s should be interesting considering the controversial hype of hip hop and its constant transitioning definition throughout the years.

Last year, Drake won Best Hip Hop Video with a questionable hip hop tune “Hold On We’re Going Home,” and in 2013 there was an uproar about Macklemore winning Best Hip Hop Video over Kendrick Lamar, which landed him with negative publicity and clear attacks on the web from underground hip hop bullies.

This year, it seems as though MTV has learned its lesson by simply putting obvious hip hop artists in the category of Best Hip Hop Video, but with Miley Cyrus—the self-proclaimed queen of twerking—as their host; who knows what trouble the multi-billion dollar network will get into.

Tune in on August 30th to watch and check out PYNK’s 2015 winner predictions for the MTV Video Music Awards below:
