It’s been a long time since you’ve put a perm in your hair and you’re now starting to embrace the natural texture that grows from your scalp. Whether your hair is curly, coily, kinky, or a little bit of everything, having natural hair is awesome, but the struggles are real There’s plenty of benefits to having your hair natural, it’s just sometimes maintaining it can be a hassle. The struggle is real when it comes to natural hair and all naturalista’s can relate to these ten struggles.
1. People always touching your hair.
This is very common. We spend hours trying to make our hair perfect and people feel the need to touch our hair. If you are going to touch someone’s hair ask for their permission first. Thank you.
2. We’ve become product junkies.
In order to keep your natural hair healthy and moisturized, it means you have to buy lots of product. So you go out and buy every leave in conditioner, hair serum, oils, curl butters, anything you can think of so that you can achieve greatness with your hair.
3. Your hair still looks dry after a while.
You just finished moisturizing your hair as much as you possibly can and no matter how much water and other products you’ve put in it, after about 30 minutes it seems as though your hair has sucked up everything. It’s like no matter how much you moisturize, your hair seems to want more.
4. Protective hairstyles have become your best friend.
We all love protective hairstyles because that means we get a break from our hair for about 2 or 3 months. The struggle is the process of putting in and taking out the hairstyle.
Our hair sheds A LOT. I don’t know how many times my mom has gotten on me about seeing my little curly strands of hair in the shower. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about shedding, it happens.
6. Our life revolves around wash day.
Naturalista’s take pride in their natural hair and we will do anything possible to keep it healthy, so please if you’re trying to make any plans with someone who has natural hair let them know in advance, we will not give up our wash day just to hang out with you.
No matter how much you try to fight it, shrinkage always wins.
8. Figuring out your hair type is confusing.
You don’t know whether you have 3c or 4a hair or if you have 2 different hair textures in one. Honestly, the hair type chart is just too much!
9. Putting your hair in a ponytail is a real struggle.
Trying to put your natural hair in a ponytail can be so difficult and tiring. Your hair is just so thick that it can’t stay, so you just end up giving up and leaving your hair out.
10. Trying to achieve the hairstyles you see on youtube.
This is the biggest struggle of them all. You watch a lot of hair tutorials on youtube and you want to try and create the same style the vlogger has, but it’s just not working. No matter how many hours you spent doing your hair and how hard you tried, it still doesn’t come out the way you want it to.
