#PYNKBeauty: “Before and After”

The industry is constantly criticized for overusing Photoshop and creating an unrealistic sense of beauty. Photographers are constantly accused of over editing photos, thus making the standard of beauty limited to a lighter complexion and slimmer build. However, have you ever wondered if this issue was limited to the United States?

Human interest journalist Esther Honig conducted a project in which she tried to find the standard of beauty amongst different cultures. Calling this “Before and After”, she used the freelance platform Fiverr and contacted individuals from about 40 countries around the globe. She sent them an unedited photo of herself and said only one thing, “Make me beautiful”.

The results were remarkable :
