Behind every great man is a woman, especially his mama. If you are not familiar with Andria Mayberry, don’t worry because you will be.
Affectionately known as Ms. Berry, the mother of Empire star Bryshere Gray, is an author and recent founder of the Ms. Berry Care’s Foundation, which mission is to empower parents and guardians to be champions in the lives, health, and career of their children by providing the resources that they need to educate and inspire.
Before the Philadelphia public schools re-opened for the start of the new school year, Ms. Berry collected close to 200 book bags packed with school supplies to give to children in need.
Hundreds of children lined up for a day of community fun, love, and support at The Spring Garden apartments, a part of the Philadelphia Housing Authority in which Ms. Berry grew up.
“I grew up here from a baby to 14 years of age. These people helped mold me into the woman I am today so I wanted to give back to the same people who helped me. I lived in these projects,” she shared with THINK PYNK. “The purpose is to let them know that I do care. I wish that someone would have given my mom a free book bag for me when she was going through hard times. Even though I don’t have it all, God has blessed me and I wanted to bless others by giving back.”
With the help of the generous sponsors including the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Nbeauty Inc., and Philly Cuts, Ms. Berry and friends successfully gave away backpacks filled wih everything from crayons to calculators in order to prepare each child to start school with a bang!
Ms. Berry was also joined by industry friends that include Donshea Hopkins (Power), rapper Omillio Sparks (Rocafella Records), Ciara Howard of Ciara Cares, and JR Events.
