In a male-dominant entertainment industry, it’s a woman’s main objective to change the status quo of females in film. It’s one thing to act on-screen, but the real magic happens through to the creative minds of the directors and producers of the project. Generally people are familiar with names like Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino, but there are several female directors that tend to get overlooked when discussing the subject of lengendary filmmakers.
Although it can be said that it’s our responsibility to find these female moguls on our own, it’s still shameful that when googling “famous directors,” the majority of people who come up in the search are men. If that wasn’t discouraging enough, just scroll thorugh the IMDb top 100 directors list and see if you can find at least one woman―you’ll be searching for a long time.
