Vivian Green Talks New Album, Education & #BlackLivesMatter

A mother, a singer and a positive female role model; Vivian Green isn’t your average entertainer―and her artistry is the epitome of uncompromising talent. Over a decade after being signed to Sony Music, the Philadelphia native continues her journey in a new lane―reflective of the Vivian Green that we haven’t fully experienced yet. With the anticipation for her forthcoming album―Vivid―set to drop August 7th and the release of her new single “Get Back to My Baby,” Vivian is having a busy spring filled with touring, media appearances and event hosting.

Inspired by Motown and the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s, Vivian’s new album is reminiscent of that old school feel that we’ve been yearning for in the current soul music trends. Produced by Kwame Holland, Vivid is a unique project unlike any other venture from Green. “Everyone’s used to me being sad in my songs,” Green said. “This album shows a completely different side of me that Kwame felt my listeners needed to hear.” The album features several up-tempo records that will relieve you of heartbreak and make you want to dance.

Signed at 16-years-old, Vivian Green hasn’t known a world outside of the music industry and with a gift like hers; she has been blessed to continue her passion in this multi-faceted industry holding classic tracks that still resonate through the R&B genre today. In 2002, Vivian Green released her debut album A Love Story that would solidify her juncture as an artist and led to her longstanding hit singles “Emotional Rollercoaster” and “Gotta Go Gotta Leave.” In addition to being a brilliant songstress, Vivian is also the mother to her 11-year-old special needs son, Jordan and a mentor to the students at her sister’s school.

Although Vivian has been traveling from city to city promoting her album, the music vet had time to sit with PYNK discuss not only her plans for her career, but worldly issues involving the need for educational improvement in inner-cities, the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and how she learned to be grateful despite any struggles and circumstances that have happened in her life. Continue reading to learn about Vivian’s faith-filled journey of her love for music, being grateful for her “miracle baby, “and new beginnings in her career.
