The world had to say goodbye to a civil rights pioneer and legendary actress on Wednesday June 11. Ruby Dee died at the age of 91, having lived a long fulfilling life.
The actress died peacefully at her home in New Rochelle, New York according to her representative Michael Livingston.
Aside from performing on stage and in films and winning numerous awards, Ruby Dee was a force in the American Civil Rights Movement. During the March on Washington of 1963 she served as the mistress of ceremonies along with her husband Ossie Davis.
Ruby Dee was certainly a force to be reckoned with and we will never forget the legacy that she has left for us all to follow.
