The city of Newark, New Jersey has always received a bad reputation as one of the worst cities in the world but those who call Brick City home see it with a different set of eyes. As the heart of New Jersey, Newark serves as the mecca for up and coming cities in the state and with the new Mayor Ras Baraka in charge he has major plans to change the stereotype many have about Brick City.
This past saturday ( August 8) Mayor Baraka along with thousands of Newark residents and special guest rapper Common marched through the streets of Newark to “Occupy the City”. With his mission to touch the hearts of the community and have them rally together as one to stop the violence and make Newark a safe place to live, Mayor Baraka made a speech that promised to make his community a place that children will no longer have to fear.
