Last week Wednesday March 25, PYNK Magazine had the honor of attending New York University’s Organization of Black Women and Women On The Move’s 9th annual panel in honor of Women’s History Month to celebrate pioneering women. Panelists included Grammy award winning singer Estelle, Journalist/NYU professor Kathy Iagoli, Supermodel Jessica White, President of Roc Nation Records and Artist manager Chaka Pilgrim. For young women looking to pursue a career in entertainment, Women On The Move gave them the push they needed that night. With encouraging words from four very different perspectives, the panel spilled the truth about being in the entertainment industry and the amount of determination and diligence it takes to make it.
After the empowering panel and open floor questions from the audience Women On The Move presented the pioneering woman award to Chaka Pilgrim-for all her accomplishments and contributions to the entertainment industry. She was congratulated in a video montage by some of her fellow Roc Nation artists including: Rita Ora, Adrienne Bailon and J Cole; her Roc Nation staff, Lenny S and Jana Fleishman, and ended with a special congrats from Chaka’s daughter. The award was presented by Chaka Pilgrim’s sister who gave a heartwarming speech on how special and hardworking Chaka is in her personal life and in her career.
