When 10 year old Kheris Rogers’ teacher asked the class to draw a self-portrait, the teacher gave her a black crayon. “She gave me a black crayon instead of a brown crayon,” Kheris told BuzzfeedNews.
She later tells BuzzFeedNews that she felt uncomfortable in the beautiful skin she was blessed with because of harsh comments from teachers and classmates. This is an example of one of the many incidences that inspired Kheris to start her T-shirt line.
With the help of her big sister, Tiffany Pollard, who began to post pics of her little sister Kheris with the hashtag #FlexinInHerComplexion, the post soon went viral getting retweeted over 30,000 times, and the compliments began to pour in!
She received positive responses to her beauty from celebrities including Snoop Dogg, Mike Epps, and Rick Smiley.
The dynamic sister team then started Flexin In My Complexion T-shirt line that represented loving the skin you’re in and appreciating the amazing tones of all brown colors.
“After I read all those comments I was like – wow – am I really that pretty?” Kheris told CBS Los Angeles.
“‘Flexin’ in my complexion’ means you can be comfortable in your skin no matter what.” Kheris describes the meaning of her shirts to PopSugar.
Each shirt retails at $15USD and money will be going towards her education.
Because of Kheris’ beauty and ambition, she is definitely #PynkGirlApproved.
